STEMM Stroll

On Friday 1 November, local secondary school students, industry professionals, and community members came together for a day dedicated to empowering women and girls in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM).

Hosted by Bendigo Tech School, La Trobe University, and Women in STEMM Australia, the event showcased the vital role of women in these fields and highlighted how diverse perspectives foster innovation.

The day started with students from Catherine McAuley College, Eaglehawk Secondary College, and Maryborough Education Centre engaging in a healthcare robotics program led by Dylan from Bugbox.

A panel discussion followed, facilitated by Sharon Hebbard from Seed2STEM Bendigo and featuring three local women in STEMM: Ann Horrocks (Industrial Chemist), Kerstin Brauns (Environmental Geologist), Staci Tully (Project Engineer). Dr Priya Rani then introduced the work of Women in STEMM Australia before launching the region’s first STEMM Stroll.

The STEMM Stroll invited participants to talk and inspire each other while walking around the La Trobe University Bendigo Campus, bringing together diverse experiences and providing opportunities to strengthen regional STEMM communities.

What a fantastic, inspirational day. A huge thanks to all who attended and contributed to the event, with special thanks to our Marist College Bendigo Student Ambassador Jordyn for the leadership she showed on the day.
